The project is for a women’s apparel shop in Fukuoka, Japan.
The shop is located on the corner lot of the department store meaning that there are two lines of customer flow.
We used five L-shaped walls, one fitting inside another, to connect the two sides.
The L-shaped walls do not stand at regular intervals but line up at random and make wide spaces and narrow spaces.
The wide space is used as an aisle or a place for furniture and the narrow space is used as a space to hang clothes or to peer through.
The width of the space changes where the wall folds.
This means that the space we thought of as the ‘front’ side changes to the ‘back’ side when we turn the corner of the wall.
It is an experience of space reversal.
